I'm not from Atlanta, but I live here, and (because I live here) people who don't live here ask me, "Creek, what's Atlanta really like?" I don't know what Atlanta is really like, but if you'd like to know what it's like for me, I invite you to sit back and enjoy another episode of "CREEKING MORE IN THE ATL (with your host Nate Creekmore)"!!!
[Hades has frozen over, apparently]
In the city of Atlanta... is it just me, or is the sun shining a little brighter these days?
Seriously, is the air sweeter? Something strange has been going on lately and I can't quite figure it out...
I first noticed it late last year when I was sitting in a movie theater watching an awful, awful musical called Into The Woods. The characters were undercooked, the plot was half-baked, the pacing was glacial, and the songs were entirely forgettable... and yet I thoroughly enjoyed sitting there, in my seat, as a travesty of filmmaking unfolded on the screen in front of me.
How is that possible?
And then there was the time last August when I went down to Center Stage on 17th and West Peachtree to see Phox, a delightful band (one must use words like delightful when describing Phox) from the frozen tundra of Wisconsin.
It was a great show and I had a great time. Here's the strange part: I went to see them play again around Valentine's Day of this year at Terminal West on West Marietta Street...
...and it was an INCREDIBLE show and I had an INCREDIBLE time! Same band, same songs, but better time..? What?
I don't know how else to say it; everything just feels better these days. Everything.
Riding MARTA...
...sitting on a park bench...
...buying groceries...
Even when I'm just doing something as mundane as sitting on a couch and watching television, I find that I have an uncontrollable, goofy smile on my face...
I'm baffled, perplexed, befuddled, and a little dizzy, frankly. Actually... you know what? It's Spring. Spring is here. I'm just happy because it's Spring, that must be what it is. You all feel the same way, yes? Happy, smiley, inexplicably jovial, right?
Mystery solved, I'm intoxicated by the bloom of Spring. Lovely, lovely Spring...
Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go float around in the clouds for a while.
...There you have it foks, another exciting episode of "Creeking More In The ATL (with your host Nate Creekmore)"! Be sure and come back for the next installment in which I just stare straight ahead into the camera with a giant, toothsome grin on my face.
I thought you seem even taller lately, silly me, you're just floating
ReplyDelete...and soaring and gliding, but mostly floating...
DeleteI've noticed a little pep in your step, too. I'm glad you have figured out the secret...the bloom of Spring...riiiight.
