I'm not from Atlanta, but I live here, and (because I live here) people who don't live here ask me, "Creek, what's Atlanta really like?" I don't know what Atlanta is really like, but if you'd like to know what it's like for me, I invite you to sit back and enjoy another episode of "CREEKING MORE IN THE ATL (with your host Nate Creekmore)"!!!
[Confederacy of Dunces]
In the city of Atlanta, this past Saturday morning, I found myself driving up the eastside of 285, stuck in the middle of a caravan of confederate flags.
Earlier in the week, the radio said something about Saturday being Confederate Flag Day up at Stone Mountain.
It's easy to imagine that confederate flaggists look like this:
But the fact is that a lot of them look like this:
And they always say this:
...which makes sense until you realize they're saying "not" instead of "of".
How can it be that someone says he's not racist while he's waving around a flag that represents the Old South? I mean, I wasn't there, but I've heard that the Old South was a pretty awful place.
Wasn't its entire economy built on a foundation of slave labor?
But, like I said, I wasn't there. I've just read about it. Maybe confederate flaggists have an entirely different perspective on the Old South...
There you have it foks, another exciting episode of "Creeking More In The ATL (with your host Nate Creekmore)"! Be sure and come back for the next installment wherein I share a dream I had where Barack Obama walked up to the South Carolina state capitol building and chopped down that flagpole with an axe.
Nice use of the 'they hate our freedom' line, apparently it worked so well back then that it's been expanded to cover the whole nation, ala 9/11 'war on terror' justification. Totally makes up for no post last week!
